Hi there - I have a 2003 50hp 4-stroke EFI (50ELPTEFI sn 0T683680).
It recently started beeping at me and on connecting a multimeter at the battery, the beeping is consistent with high voltage (as much as 17 volts). I have carefully checked all the relevant electrical connections (battery, ground strap, positive, etc) and tried a different battery. No change. Therefore, I am about to replace the voltage regulator.
The regulator in there shows PN 883071-1, which is consistent with the 883071t1 I get when I search for the appropriate replacement.
However, my regulator has 5 wires (one red wire) while all the replacement ones I see have 6 wires (2 red wires). Otherwise they look identical. On a wiring diagram I saw for the 6-wire, bth reds show as "+B".
My question is: can I use the 6 wire regulator? And if so, do I just leave the additional red wire disconnected? Or do I join them?
I really appreciate, in advance, any help you can provide.
Many thanks!
P.S. - I have seen some 5-wire regulators for sale with the (apparently) correct wiring configuration. But those are listed as 883072T2 - and mine clearly is stamped 883071-1 (and part sites show that 883071t1 is correct for my engine).
