"Have a 150 HP 2000 Johnson that is reading 18 volts and increases with RPMS. It pegs to the top basically. I changed the volt regulator/rectifier, and it still reads the same. I don't know where to go next. I was certain that was the issue.

Thanks!"

"As JWB suggests, suspect the battery.

Many years back, OMC came out with a bulletin that stated this type problem could be encountered if one was using a maintance free battery, and if so to change to the regular type battery, meaning a battery that one would need to add water to from time to time. I have no idea if such a battery is still available but it's a thought.

When time permits, visit my eBay store at: http://stores.ebay.com/Evinrude-Johnson-Outboard-Parts-etc?refid=store"

"I have tried 2 good/new batteries. Same results. Also, all electronics are working fine. Wouldn't this blow some of them if they were truly getting 18+ volts? Everything works.

Thanks again!"

Have You measured the charge at the batteries?
It might be a broken cable somewhere giving an open circuit not letting the charge voltage go to the batteries. Double check.

I was getting high voltage readings after replacing a rectifier I then switched the wires coming from the stator around and was getting normal readings
