"Hi Guys,
Just found this site and have learned a lot already. I have a 73 CC Catalina with a 350 chevy. What I believe to be the original thermostat is a "Vernathem VD-1114588. It is inop and vernatherm tells me they no longer make it. Anybody got any ideas?
thanks in advance.

"Take it to a good NAPA or oher auto store and match it up. If it's a FWC system, look for a 160 stat.

Thanks for the reply. Wish it

Thanks for the reply. Wish it were that easy. Tried NAPA and Green Light both. Its a real odd duck of a stat with a long skirt.

Uh-oh! Maybe a call to Crusade

Uh-oh! Maybe a call to Crusader and ask them for a recommendation?

"All I know about the engine i

"All I know about the engine is that it is counter rotating (I found that out the hard way when I rebuilt the engine and put a standard cam in it) and that its a corvete 5 bolt main block. I'm sure its a crusader engine.
The thermostat does'nt look anything like the one in the sierra catalog. It has a skirt about an inch and a half long. The way the housing is built it allows water into the exhaust at any temp.
I have searched the internet and contacted Vernatherm and have just about decided if I am going to run a stat it will take a new housing, which presents its own set of problems.
Its HOT here in Oklahoma and the engine, w/o a stat is running about 120 degrees. I run the boat almost year round in lakes and the Arkansas river. I think the cold temp is costing me. Thanks for trying to help guys. Any place to post a picture over 50Kb?

"It's an oddball all right

"It's an oddball all right. (Still, I've seen one of those things before.)

That huge 'dingus' on the bottom side makes it unique, but I'll bet a regular stat that fits the opening would work just as well. Heck; all it has to do is stop the water flowing through when cold, and adjust when hot. Any stat that fits the opening would do that.

"Thanks Jeff,
That makes some

"Thanks Jeff,
That makes some sense. I'll pull the housing apart and see if that will work. Liked your idea to call crusader also.
