Vernatherm removal

Ok, 1976 Evinrude 85 hp (m/n 85693g) where I am trying to get the vernatherm out so I can clean or replace it. I have the cover out and the vernatherm seems stuck in the housing. From the limited notations I can find it seems that the vernatherm just sits in the housing. Is this correct? How do I get it other than vice grips and brute force? Oh, and where are the gaskets that need to be replaced with it...
Here's a pic of it...
THANKS!!!

The vernatherm is simply stuck in the housing... You may need to put a little heat on the housing to free it. Yeah... vice grips and brute force will do it! Do yourself a favor and replace it as you'll no doubt do some damage in removing it.

The gaskets are on each side of that plastic component... a large gasket 318394.... and a small gasket 318396. They should be readily available but if not, contact me.

Got it off (thanks to Joe!!) and got the new parts (I hope) in. Any idea where I can get the 2 hoses or what the model number might be? Just thinking it would be smart to replace them since I have them off.

Find your engine in the Evinrude and Johnson Parts lists on this ( MarineEngine ) site http://www.marineengine.com/parts/parts.php

You will find the Vernatherm etc in the " exhaust housing " list and the hoses in the "cylinder and crankcase " list

You can then order them directly from MarineEngine

Looks 'about' right. Seems a bit more curved in real life, but y'all know best. I'll give it a shot.
Thanks!!
