Verado 200 vs. Verado 225

While not exactly a repair question, I was hoping for some advice. I have just ordered a new PAC NAV 200 Duckworth. I am tryign to decide on the Verado 200 or should I upgrade to the 225. I am told there is maybe on 5mph additional at the top. (not super concerned about top speed). I am mostly concerned about having enough power to push the boat with several adults onboard. Mostly it will be a fishing boat, but also no doubt it will double for some family fun. The 225 will be approx $3k more. Not worth it for 5mph in my opinion, but am i missing other things? The 225 does come with power steering while the 200 does not.

Any thoughts? Stay where I am or upgrade?

thanks,

Kevin

$600 per 1 mph is pretty steep. Can't you use some of the $3,000 to add power steering to the 200.

I suppose I could but there are other costs associated with the upgrade. There needs to be something to start the power steering if the kicker is started. Since they are tied together the power steering "pump" needs to be runnign to steer the kicker from the helm, etc. So the motor alone is only ~$2,200 but you can't just do the motor. Same would be true if I added PS to the 200. What I really need to determine is other than the 5 mph, are there other benefits of going with the 225 over the 200. I have only ever had an inboard and not being a motor guy I just don't know if I would notice the difference.

thanks for the reply.

This boat is a heavy battlewagon hull? Or a fair weather boat?
The 6 cylinder has ton of torque. And does not Shake 'N Bake at idle like the 4 banger.
The power steering will kill most ordinary batteries in half a season. So that is another hidden cost to upgrade to heavy duty's.
