I started the teardown of my port velvet drive transmission (Model AS7 - 71C w/ 1.91:1 ratio) tonight and got stuck in a couple of places. It is a 1976 and it appears that it has not been opened up before. The snap rings are big and stubborn and despite owning a nice set of snap ring pliers they are too small. I have found some bigger ones and am ordering those.
The bigger problem is that I can't get the oil pump assembly (#40 in figure 8 of the manual) off of the forward & reverse adapter assembly (#45). Does anyone have any tricks or tips for getting it free? I've tried light force with hammer and screwdriver (as much as I dare!), Kroil penetrating oil, and a little (again as much as I dare!) heat.
I have the manual but it doesn't seem to cover disassembly... only assembly. Any help is greatly appreciated as I still have a second transmission to deal with too.
Thanks!
