V8 Gimbal mount tiller

I'm looking for pics or any info on a v8 tiller set-up on on boat. These are home grown boats with v8 automotive engines on them. Have heard they race boats with these set-ups in the bayou country but haven't found any on the web yet. Any help out there? I believe they may exist in other areas of the world like Thailand also.

If you get a few more details, it may help a bunch, like what type of drive system behind the engine? That's the big driver on how 'independent' your choices are.

Well this is as close as I can seem to find:

Obviously a v8 would be mounted further in due to the weight but hopefully you get the idea in this pic.

Seen some things like that first pic, but with much smaller engines. They use them in the coastal bays and flats on the eastern shore (mid-atlantic) and every one i've seen is home brewed. Similar topography to the bayous though the snags are a bit more scarce.

I can't fathom a small v-8 mounted up that high let alone on a pivoting type of mount.

If I had to go that route, I'd visit the local hydraulic shop and get a cylinder with enough throw to get the swing you need.

Have you investigated an Arneson drive? That's the closest thing I can think of though, mechanically, its lots different. Engine hard mounted to the hull with surface drive unit out the back that pivots.

As far as

I saw a pic once several years ago where the engine (looked to be a small block Chev) was mounted a few feat forward of the transom on a rather large jon boat. Looked like a commercial type jon maybe 20 ft long and pretty wide. Yes what I have in my head may be similar to the Arneson drive but dumbed down for the poor mans version haha.

Does anyone have a schematic or diagram on how the above pictured set-ups run the direct drive from the engine? Also what sort of set-up is used to swivel the engine for steering? Someone here has to have some experience with this??
