"I have a 1989 88hp Evinrude 25 in. VE88MSLCER. It came with a "shock" and not a trim. I have a power trim unit from a 1998 115 hp. Just the pump, motor and 3 cylinders. What will I need to replace to get this working on the 88? I know I will need a wiring switch to my controls. Is there a relay? Will I need an entire mid section?
The 88 is in pieces in my garage now, I am doing a good rebuild on her. I have never did any part swaping like this before."

"Gene, I'm not sure what you're proposing is possible. The 1989 model has the older style midsection that would probably accomodate the TNT unit of the day. The 1998 probably has the "fastrack" midsection used on the newer motors. From what I understand, the two are not interchangable.

You would definately need a new stern bracket to house the system. I don't know that the carrier would bolt up the the tilt tube on the stern bracket. If you changed the carrier too, then would the steering shaft and exhaust housing mate up? If you change the exhaust housing, you'll have to change the powerhead and gearcase. By then you might as well trade the whole motor."
