V belt proeblem

My 5.7 mercruiser keeps burning up alternator belts. The alighnment and pulleys appear to be in good shape. I heard that an alternator could lock up and also cause this problem. Need help with this.

Install some new bearings on the alternator.--------Easy to do and cheap too.

how old is is, was it ever replaced, is it exposed to water spray from a leaky hose or water pump leak

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... How rusty are All the pulleys,..??

Rusted pulleys is the most common cause of yer issue,....
