"Years ago I used Coca Cola on some rusted exhaust manifold bolts. It takes forever for it to work, Kroil, PB Blaster or Fluid Film will work a lot better."

"Thanks Guys! I've been using PB with no results yet. The Kroil is on it's way.
JB, I haven't taken it to a shop yet but will in about a month. As soon as the weather gets a little warmer here, around April, the shops will be full of spring work. So I'll give the Kroil a try first, if it doesn't work, it's off to the shop with it. I just don't want to give in....I'm stubborn like that....maybe a little cheap too, although I like to call it frugal. Thanks again for the support."

"Doug,
I think you're right about the pin in the shift shaft lever.....but I can't figure out how to get it out.....I've been able to move the shift lever to a position where I can insert a steel rod into the hole to push the spring pin out but it will only push out about half way because the engine block is in the way.....now I cannot move or twist the shift lever because the pin hits the engine block. Do I have to drill it out?
Here is a photo.

"pull the starter off and remove the carb to gain some room. did you try and just lift up on that rod, once the linkage is off it should slide up, if it moves more than a 1/2 up its not the problem. If you have to, dremel or saw the role pin off as you drive it threw. I wish you luck, but I'll bet some fine St. Louis beer against some fresh crabs that you are SOL"

"I tried it anyway....you are right, no luck.....I'm not a betting man so you're SOL too.

You'll have to drink the beer yourself.
