Using an IR gun on a Merc 470

I will be able to run my '83 470 on the trailer with the muffs this week. Can I get any useful information using my IR gun to see temps around the engine. I thought the inlet and outlet side of the heat exchanger would be one. Some temps of the head and exhaust manifold at each cylinder would be another. Any thoughts?

Check the locations you listed and record the temps for future reference. Also check the thermostat hsg. temp. Temps will be higher after a hard run...you might check temps then and also record them.

Yes I will do the thermostat housing. I don't expect anything too high just idling on city water temp coming in. I'll make the same recordings when I get off the trailer.
