Used Risers and Elbows

I have a set of risers and elbows that I took off of a FWC 454 Crusader that only had two seasons of use in fresh water. This engine was getting swapped out and I had the opportunity to get them for free from the owner. My question for all, would you install slightly used risers and elbows on your engines? These are very clean but with the normal rust on the inside.

if the water jackets are solid (not large flakes of rust), I wouldn't have any issue using them...if you have a buddy that can hot tank them, that should eliminate most of the surface rust so you can give them a decent inspection.

Only two seasons of use in fresh water???? I'd think that they would be OK.

The only NEW manifold and risers are still in their boxes and on the shelf! :D

IOW, what's the difference if these had been installed on YOUR engine two years ago, and we're now 6 or 8 years down the road?

.

Yeah Rick only two seasons with less than 80 hours of use in upper Chesapeake Bay. I know the owner and boat these came from. When I tap on them with a rubber mallet, I get small chunks of scale/rust falling out.

Should be fine UNLESS they were left out in the weather to rust.

Where about in the upper Chesapeake? Tha't my stomping ground!

You'd probably find this with any 2 year old set.
Just make sure that the sea water transfer ports are clean and open..... and you'll be just fine.

Perhaps after 2 more seasons, pull them apart and inspect again.

We left around 5 or six years ago. I was a few slips down from Billy and Sally. Harvey was a few down from me on the other side. Roland (Riley) was right behind me. Miss the old gang. I wanted to stop by this year with my kids since they are so much bigger since we were there and I'm sure they would like to make a visit.

Hot damn! I know everyone of them! We are two slips away frm Billy.

Rollie sold his boat and became a damn farmer, but the rest of the gang is still there.

I'll tell them we talked--and be sure to stop by some time.

Jeff

I will have to stop by soon. Is your season over by the 15th still? That was one thing I never liked about the Cove. Is Everett still there? He was right next to Harvey.

Everett AND his son Evan are still there--Evan has a really nice Egg Harbor. New management at the Cove for the last 3 or 4 years. MUCH better! Glen is still there as well, which is good news.

We hauled out early this year since the *$@#& barnacles made further boating ridiculous. Must have 2,000 of them on the bottom, shafts and props. Boat felt like it was dragging another behind it.

Jeff

I think his is about 38 foot. Drop by sometime and you'll see--it's about 75 % of the way down, on the left side. Called the "Islander".

Jeff

PS: Winterized the boat today. Stayed on board last night--bbrr!!

Yeah, I was down on my boat Thursday night and it was a bit cool. Of course I had my heat cranking. Went down to the boat show on Friday. We had frost on our docks Saturday morning.
