I bought a motor online at a g

I bought a motor online at a government auction site. Its an older model Mariner. The serial number plate was missing. The silver disk on the motor reads A194986. Can somebody tell me what I got? I have to apply for a title in my state and don't know the serial or model # or anything else about it. Thanks for any help.

"Scott, can tell you a couple

"Scott, can tell you a couple of things about the motor. And yes, that number you posted is the serial number.

It is a Mercury built Mariner, either a 1985 or 1986 model. Unfortunately you did not include the horsepower. A Merc serial does not provide that information. However, based on the serial, that (group) was assigned to 40-60 horse motors as near as I can tell.

If you don't know the horsepower, you could post the number of cylinders and also look on the top carb - there should be a WM or WMC number cast right into the top of the carb - posting that would also help - with that info can probably give you a definate answer..."

"Thanks for responding Graham,

"Thanks for responding Graham, # of cylinders is 2, Stamp on carb is wmc11135. You got me close and I can't thank you enough! Can you get me the rest of the way? Thanks again, Scott"

"Scott, I think I have her for

"Scott, I think I have her for ya. A twin cylinder, single carb (if it's just 1 carb) would make it a 1985, 25 horse "marathon" model. Really nice motor if that's what it is - the single carb will verify that....

The 50 horses also used that carb, but they were a 3 cylinder with twin-carbs."

Thanks, you nailed it! Single carb it is. I can't thank you enough, Scott"

I'm filling out my applica

I'm filling out my application for a title and it asks for the model. What do I put down? Thanks for the help. Scott

That model was a "marathon

That model was a "marathon" or "sea pro" depending on where it was marketed - or you can just simply call it a model 25....

"Thank you very much, that sho

"Thank you very much, that should complete the information I need to apply for a title. Scott"
