Upper Impeller Seal?

Howdy all. My first dive into boatland, had to service the outdrive, Mercruiser Alpha One, Gen 1. My question is, the impeller kit I bought, there is no rubber seal between the steel impeller sleeve and plastic housing. There is a pocket that looks like it should have a seal. Wouldn't water just leak past the shaft? There is a seal on the lower pump.

This is the area I'm talking about (at 1:42:43), he mentions lubing the inner seal, or top portion of the impeller:

no seal on TOP of the impeller...there is a SEAL between the upper water pump housing and the water tube and that needs a thin grease film.

I would also be good to run a thin bead of grease on top of the water pump housing, where the drive shift comes thru BEFORE reattaching the rubber slinger...

There is a THICK black Oring also called a slinger. It sits on the top of the housing. I commonly ad a little grease to top of plastic housing before pushing the slinger oring down onto top of housing.
The slinger keeps exhaust gases from entering impeller housing when you have through prop exhaust.

There is NO seal (s) in impeller housing.
The Pump base has seals below impeller housing.
