"Ok, I had a 100hp mariner that came with my 20' pontoon boat, the engine basically got destroyed and the cost to rebuild was way to high. So I went on Ebay and bought what was listed as a 115hp mercury. When I go to pick it up the owner confused the 1150 on the side as meaning 115hp. Instead it is a 150hp. Is this the much hp for a 20' pontoon and/or what are the dangers of my putting this on my boat?

A 1150 is 115 Hp. There should

A 1150 is 115 Hp. There should be a plate on the boat giving you the max horse power. You shouldn't exceed that as it would be unsafe and illegal.

"here is a pic of the engine I just realized it has both 1150 and 1500 on it, however the the top engine cover has the 1500, but the lower unit/shaft has 1150 on it? I have no plate anywhere that I can find on the boat with the max hp rating...What is a way to tell if this is to big and what are the dangers of putting to much hp on a pontoon boat?

"Looking at the pics, I suspect the hood was replaced at some point. I would trust the stickers on the exhaust housing - most likely a 115 horse with a 150 cover that it acquired..."
