1999 merc. 50 tach not working since installed, purple from harness to power on tach,gray to sig on tach ,and a good ground, upon checking more into it I found while looking at regulator that one of the yellow wires has gotten hot,burnt the plastic at connector and melted about 1 1/2 inches of insulation off of wire, now question is can I cut wire ,soldier anew piece in or do I need to replace the regulator.Thanks for info.
