UPDATE: 1959 Evnirude Carb has kicked me!!!!!

Ok guys, the only way gas can get into the carb is without a gasket! I've spent half my day with this thing. Every orifice in the carb is clear. If I seal the carb with the gasket the free flowing gas inlet shuts down. If I close the carb without the gasket it stays open, or should I say, air continues to blow in. I even did both these procedures with and without the float needle installed; same results. None of the holes in the gasket block any of the holes in the carb. About the only thing I can think of now is another carb. Before I do that I have one question. I checked my compression. #1 cylinder comes out at 80psi, #2 cylinder comes out at 60psi. I read somewhere the difference shouldn't be more than 5%. So big question, am I screwed? Did I get in too deep? Should I try to sell it and start all over. Any help, comments would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.....

It should be simple ----But I give up with advice.-------If you came over with the carburetor and a case of beer -----I could fix it no problem.----------Post about a dozen pictures of the carburetor and internals , maybe can spot something.

The vent from the float chamber to outside air is clogged somehow. Look at the bottom portion of the upper body of the carburetor..... there should be a hole (passageway) there that leads to the outer air..... probably clogged with insect debris or intentionally plugged by someone that thought there shouldn't be a hole (passageway) there.

If air can't get out, fuel can't get in.

Jets are open to atmosphere and WILL allow fuel in ------------the carburetor would not work with a plugged vent , but will fill with fuel when primed.

Ok, here are 2 pics of the upper chamber. I found 4 blocks ports. 0222111756b.jpg0222111756a.jpg

Some of those are factory installed lead shot.--------Installed after the drilling of passageways.-----------------Whats with the obscene goop / sealant on there.

Here is another blocked port on the upper chamber. Kinda hard to see. Its just to the left of the screw. It is directly behind the upper lever of the manual choke. Can't find any other blockages than what is in the pics. Thanx guy. Wish I could take ya up on ur offer.
