Unusual noise

I have a Volvo Penta AQ125 with the 170 out drive, I believe. Was out on the lake yesterday and the boat was running great, however on sharp turns to either direction, I'm hearing a rough noise, much more pronounced than the normal sounds when cruising along in a straight line. I'm wondering if this may indicate a problem with the ujoints connecting the engine with the outdrive? Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm new to this site and have received valuable information already and appreciate the members' generosity in sharing their experiences. I've got a mid 80's bayliner capri and my family is increasingly enjoying our boating experiences as we're having more and more success in keeping it on the water and out of the garage. I'm sure many of you can relate.....family much happier when dad is behind the wheel and they're on the water rather than having his head stuck in the engine compartment or under the dash.:) Thanks again.

Last weekend I got into the ujoints and found them in reasonably good shape but replaced them anyhow. While in there, I checked the PDS and found it to be pretty sloppy so I pulled the engine and removed the shaft. Upon doing that, the ball bearings fell onto the garage floor. I was so fortunate that I caught it when I did. Approximately $30-40 later, I was able to button everything back up and got out on the lake in the evening. The boat ran great! No bad noises or vibrations. Thanks again for all the useful information on this site. I've especially appreciated el_pescador and RicardoMarine's comments. Your posts have been incredibly helpful!
