Unsolved Leaking Fuel Problem on Evinrude Outboard Motor

Hi,

I'm curious if anyone here has seen this before. Recently, fuel has started leaking from my 9.9 HP 1984 Evinrude outboard motor. I've had it out on the water 2 or 3 times this year without any problems. It was serviced over the winter, too.

I've attached a video so you can see the problem.

In the video you can see the fuel spray out when I squeeze the bulb to prime the engine. When it starts it only runs for 10 - 15 seconds. At the end of the video you can also see fuel leaking as it sputters out.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Trash in connectors or bad connectors. Replace both connectors to be safe or replace o-rings. Easiest thing is buy new connectors.

Yep.... easily corrected problem. Replace that snap on fuel connector. This site, Wal*Mart, Marine type stores, etc.

Thanks for the info. I replaced the female fuel connectors and it did not solve the problem.

My next thought is to try replacing the male fuel connector on the engine. It looks fine to me, though. Any other thoughts as to what it could be?

Normally it is the female connector. However, it's a good idea to have a couple of those in your onboard tool box for emergency use so it wasn't a lost $$ purchase.

The amount of spray I see suggests that the hose connected to the male fitting has cracked bad, had the clamp break, something of that nature. Easy to correct.
