On my 1976 Mercury 110 9.8 2 stroke, There a vacuum looking part on my carburetor that is not listed on the diagram and is uncapped and has no hose attached. Can anyone tell me what this is and how IT SHOULD be? It was in my motor Exactly as picture. Looks like it should have a hose or be capped. Thoughts?

It is not a vacuum port.---On some motors the oil recirculation hose from the bottom of block attaches there.----A short wee hose.----On some the hose goes from the bottom of the block to the top.----I can not see your block and I do not know if your carburetor is original to your 9.8 HP motor.----I have seen this before in case you question this knowledge.

I believe that is the vacuum pulse port that operates the fuel pump. That hole must line up with one in the gasket.

???----No that is NOT for operating the PRESSURE fuel pump.------The hole for the pump is clearly visible on the mounting flange.

There’s only one hole, and it’s threaded and in the bottom of the cowl...don’t see anywhere where it could attach. Do you think it could be capped or closed off? Pictures below. The red marks indicate where that part is on the carburetor.

???-I could show you this in seconds if you brought the motor over.----

I definitely wish I could but I’m in Riverside, California There is no hose to it though. The real question is...how necessary to the motor’s operation is it? I could totally cap it, or close it off if it’s “the appendix” of the motor lol. If you could answer that I’d totally be happy

See and read post #2

ok I reread it and from my understanding, you’re saying that if it’s a replacement carburetor, the component might not be in use or needed...correct? Sorry, I’m new but learning fast. I appreciate your contribution though...very much.

Also, I found a broken Venturi inside my carburetor. It had broken off and was stuck, partially blocking the main port, leading into my engine. From my understanding, the Venturi causes a slight vacuum, redirecting and shooting fuel into the engine. Without that, the fuel shoots against the side of the carburetor without the redirection. Is this something that could affect the starting problem I’m having? I have a replacement part en route, but I’ll take the insight too. Thanks.
