I bought a 1987 sailboat with a 2 cylinder M-12. 570 engine hours (hoses all look new; re-build?). I think the boat sat unused for most of 2022. When I try to start, the engine always fires but then cuts out. Takes a lot tries and goosing the throttle to get it going. Once it's running, it runs steady, idles nicely, no smoke.
I changed the fuel filters and it ran great for 10 hours, then wouldn't start. There was debris visible in the water separator bowl. I had the tank cleaned, old fuel removed, replaced all the fuel hoses, replaced the filters again. Started right up, but next day the same old problem repeated. Fires up on cranking, but then cuts out.
Any ideas on next steps for trouble-shooting?
