Unequal PSI compression between #1 & #2 pistons?

Is it an "end of the world" event when my '59 Johnson 3 hp motor has a 10 lb difference between the two cylinders? (#1 = 30/31 lbs & #2 = 40lbs)

That's not it, unfprtunately as I just replaced the head gasket. However, could it be that I didn't use an actual torque wrench when cinching down the bolts? I don't have one and "assumed" that I could get by w/o one. Probably bad idea now that I think about it. Tell me I need to go buy one and I will. Short cuts always come back to bite us in the ass...

All outboard cylinder heads warp !----Refinish to make it flat.----Torque to 80 inch lbs.-----Or you have a poor quality gauge.

I just now torqued down the head bolts. I don't have an "inch pound" torque wrench (mine measures in foot lbs), but did notice that I failed to tighten the bolts at all after replacing the gasket. So, re-torquing now (w/o inch torque wrench & guessing for now) I brought both cylinders up to 50 lbs. Is that pressure adequate? Also, previously I did sand the head on a piece of glass and did get the mild wrap out of it.

80 inch # is only 6 3/4 foot #.
All even and tight is adequate.

Got sidetracked today but am now at the point of trying to fire her up tomorrow afternoon. Filled the lower end with gear oil. Timing looks good, and jbelieve I've got the ignition/carburater linkage dialed in. Also bought new gas today. Will post tomorrow with the results.

I definitely will soon, which is the next trip to town. Meanwhile, I think my hand tightening the head bolts today which brought the pressure in both cylinders up to 50 PSI will suffice for a test run tmorrow.
