"I have a 1999 Mercruiser Alpha 1. Problem is that while under load it won't get out of the hole. Can't get more than 3200 RPM out of it - and the speed is peaking @ 15MPH when it should be up around 32-35. While sitting at the dock the RPM is fine: 6000-7000. As soon as it under power it bogs down.

Have rebuilt the carb, emptied gas, fixed the timing and changed fule filter. These have helped some but now I'm at a loss of what to check next.
Fuel pump maybe?

Any advice would be good.

Thanks"

"Hello and welcome to the site

"Hello and welcome to the site. I think we are going to need some more info on this one.

We need to know some more:
1.)What size engine?
2.)What Pitch Prop?
3.)Boat Size & Weight?
4.)Is the hull clean?
5.)What gear ratio in the outdrive ie.. (2:1, 1.81:1, or 1.62:1)

Also, don't rev the thing to the 6000 to 7000 RPM's you will have a mess on your hands if you keep doing that very often.

If you can get us some answers to the questions listed above we might be able to offer some ideas.

Take care,

T."

Do a compression check on the

Do a compression check on the motor.
Check that the timming advance works. Use a timming light and see if the timming mark moves when you increase the throttle. Carefully check the flow rate of the fuel pump. Was everything working good at one time? Did you change anything?
