Unable to start aq131

"I have a 1986 bayliner capri

"I have a 1986 bayliner capri with a aq131 and 275 outdrive. I cant get it to start, i put new plugs in last year it had to wires put in. i can get the engine to crank but wont turn over. when i put it in nuetral and andvance the throttle when tryin to start i can a spurt of feul into the carb but i am not getting a constant stream should i??? i plan on changing the cap and roter. any suggestions??? oh last year she ran fine shes a little rough starting at first where i have to give her gas and pump it a little bit but she always started last year. iam a a complete lose any help would be appreciated looking to get it in the water soon and start fishing.

Do You have 'spark' at the right timing? Have You checked that the belt has not jumped a tooth or more?

"All right new update on the engine. I have since installed a new coil, and another ste of plugs and a new starter today. It is spinning faster now with the new started but still wont start i am getting a good blue spark also. The only thing i can get is a backfire every once in awhile no start yet. any more suggestions??? iam going to check timing again monday."

"Timmy: as Morten suggested, check that the timing belt is correctly set. Check this thread:

If the timing belt installation is correct, make sure that the ignition wires are installed correctly: the firing order is 1-3-4-2 and the distributor turns clockwise. If all OK, loosen the distributor, and move it either back or forward while atempting to start. If it still does not start, you may have to remove the distributor and reinstall it correctly.
