U joint Bellows

I've had several other boats this is my first OMC outdrive. I've got the out drive off and I'm wondering if there's a relatively painless way of replacing the u joint bellows. I wrestled with it yesterday utilizing the recommended bellows adhesive and in the end probably damaged the new bellows.and I need a decent manual the Clymer one sucks

Bellows replacement has been a pain since the 1st MerCruisers came out & OMC Cobra continued the tradition.
Add to the tight quarters, black or gray paint (although for 2 years, Mercruiser marketed an oyster white SeaRay drive) camouflaging everything & if you have a swim platform be sure to smack your head.
Delco & Clymers manuals tell just enough to mislead you; Buy OEM.
