I have always filled the trim pump for my 280T with Type F tranny fluid. The pistions have always dropped over night and under load as well. I figured this was due to worn o-rings on the piston. BUT this weekend I noticed the exact same pump on my buddy's Merc setup and the sticker reads: "SAE 10-30 or 10-40 ONLY". I am wondering if tranny fluid is not viscous enough and 'slips' by the o-rings under load. The relative viscosities of ATF to motor oil (at 40C) is 39/91, so there is quite a difference.
