How long can you safely run a outboard on flush muffs for ?
How would you connect a lanyard switch when there seems no provision for it on the loom?

Oh its a 1980 70hp 3 cylinder.

Kind Regards
Alex

"Alex, I do not think there i

"Alex, I do not think there is a time limit on using the flush muffs. Do not exceed a fast idle, and make sure you have water circulation.

On many OMC ignition switches you can optionally snap on a lanyard. There is a cylinder around the key slot that sticks up to accept the lanyard snap. Do you really need one on a 70HP motor?"

I have only been out on the bo

I have only been out on the boat a few times. it is only an 11ft boat and it is quite a hairy ride!
I thought it might be a good idea as when i hit open water when choppy it was a bit of a white knuckle ride

"Alex, You can buy an afterma

"Alex, You can buy an aftermarket lanyard and kill switch. These are mounted into the dashboard, someplace near the steering wheel. They usually ground the ignition, the same way the ignition switch does.

PS I am not an expert, but never saw an 11 foot boat with a 70HP motor. You had best be careful out there."

Alex...if i remember correctly

Alex...if i remember correctly a 1980 70hp is a heavy motor..if it dies or you kill it in rough water that 11 foot boat better hace some very hi sides and transom or its gonna sink from water(waves) coming over the transom..the last thing you want is a motor failure in rough water..respectfully..Carl

"You have a 70hp motor on an 1

"You have a 70hp motor on an 11 foot boat? It ought to go a gazillion miles an hour! Time should not be an issue, as long as you have them on properly, and water is coming out of tell tale continuously.

(I would have thought the transom on an 11 foot would have been rated for a motor a lot smaller than that!)"

It is a quick little boat i ha

It is a quick little boat i have got to say! i have to have a ballast at the front as if you dont get your timing right with the throttle it can rise pretty high and scare the crap out of you. all good fun though. (in calmer waters!!!)

And what is the horsepower rat

And what is the horsepower rating on the BIA Certification Plate in the boat? I would be suprised if it read 70 Hp.

You ar more than likley 100% c

You ar more than likley 100% correct about the rating! it does not have a plate anywhere on the boat! prob should be a 40hp ish in my opinion.
Like i said in previous threads i have only been out on it a handful of times and it is quite scary but still fun none the less.
