1979 Evinrude 85hp 85999R


Boat has been running great for the past month. Was running 4800 rpm wot around 42mph. Took it out yesterday and when putting in full throttle to take off then engine would rev real high then take off after about 10 seconds or so. Now at full throttle it reads 5500-5800 rpms and 30 mph and it seems to surge now. Any ideas? Whats been done in the last 2 months

carbs rebuilt
2 new coils
new wires
new plugs
2 new power packs

I will do that. I have been taking off with the motor all the way down. Is this not correct? Should have mentioned if it matters the day before I got in shallow water and the prop was spinning in the dirt bottom on take off.

I will do that thanks. I went ahead and took the prop off just to inspect the hub. Noticed there was a good amount of fishing line tangled on the prop shaft behind the washer on the back end of the hub. Didn't see any rubber pieces. HUb semed solid but will test it.
