Trouble with puttying into gear and motor shut down

I have a 1986 Johnson V4 model no. J110TLCDC and runs good when in neatrul but when engage it in gear it shuts off. A few weeks ago I put it in the water and it run good in neatrul and when I put it in gear it only had enough power to run 28 mph, if I gave it more gas it shut down. I bought some carburater cleaner and sprayed the carburator to clean. I also cleaned where the hook up to the gas going to motor. Thinking maybe this would solve my problem I took it fishing, It started good and run good but when put in gear the motor would shut down. I don't understand because it wouldn't even run 28 mph, it just shut down. Could you please help me with what might be going on, I don't think it's a major problem I think it could be simple. Your help would be greatly appreciated, I'm on ssn and don't have a loaqd of money. Thank you. aw johnson

Your motor will run quite well on 3 cylinders.----You need to do some trouble shooting here !----That starts with a compression test.-----Then you check and see if you have spark on all 4 cylinders.-By spark we mean spark that can jump a gap of 7/16" and not just 1/32" on a spark plug !
