I have a 1972 electric start 50hp Johnson marine motor. It is key start and I just bought this and I am not familiar with key starts. How do I start it? Also I just had this serviced so I know it runs fine I just cant get it to start. I can get it to turn over and run for a second and then it dies. When I was preparing to take it out I accidently turned the Rich and lean valve could that be the problem? If so how do I fix it? Any advice would be great.

if you turned the valve on the primer,if it is an electrical primer, then it is more likly flooding.the primer is round and has a little lever.if you turn the lever so the end of the lever is pointing away from primer then it is flooding, turn it so the end of the lever is pointing toward the bottom of primer.I hope this helps!!

There was no electric primer installed at the factory on a 72 50 HP.----------Turn the mixture adjustment back to where it was.-----------------You need to advance throttle , make sure choke is in the " automatic " position.-----Activate and hold choke on while cranking.
