I am in the market for a Honda 5hp BF5DHSHNA. I also have a 2004 3.5 hp Johnson j3rsre but am quite new to owning outboards.
The Honda manual recommends GL-4 SAE 90 Hypoid gear oil. I can't seem to find it though. Any really. They either don't say GL-4, or hypoid, or say they are for 50hp engines and up. I didn't think this would be a challenge.
What do the GL- numbers mean? And is there a big difference between brands. Would I be able to put it in my johnson? Thanks!
