My father has an 01 Mercury 15

My father has an 01 Mercury 150 with trim/Tilt. I want to get him an engine position gauge. I don't know if it has a sender. Can anyone tell me what the sender looks like and how to verify if it is working (I assume it works on a varied voltage?)

Any input is appreciated.

The trim sender is "always

The trim sender is "always" an option on a Merc. Kinda a roundish black thing on the inside of the transom bracket with a couple wires coming out of it.
