Trim wont work

I have a 78 Johnson 140 motor. The trim won't go up or down. you can hear the motor working but nothing happens. I can raise the motor by hand, and it will stay up. But when I hit the down switch it doesn't go down, but when I hit the up switch, it releases pressure and the motor goes down. I sure could use some advice. Also I replaced the fluid and it is full.

Have you checked your manual release valve? Sounds like it could be loosened or you could be low on fluid; check that also. Good luck. Others should chime in with other suggestions.

yes,I replaced the rubber washer on the valve and there are no leaks anywhere, and full on fluid.
