I am looking at purchasing a 1976 boat with a 120 mercruiser stern drive.
I must say that I know very little about boats.
This boat has not been in the water for 2 years. The owner had it running 2 days ago and could not get it to perform well. We put new gas in and still the same problem. It was running for approx 1/2 and no improvements. All of a sudden it picked right up and performed for approx 45 seconds, then the same old thing.
It was suggested that I put a carborator cleaner in and try to run the tank of gas through it.
I was going to try to do this today, however I cannot lower the trim. When it was left it was approx 1/2 way out of the water. There is power to the motor as I can hear it. And I was able to raise the trim to full up. However it will not lower at all. I can see indications where someone has tapped on the motor in the past. I tried this as well and nothing.
Any suggestions to either option? Obviously the trim is the factor right now.
Thanks
Rob
