I recently took my boat to a local mechanic to get the shift cable bellow replaced because it was dry cracked and I was taking in a lil water. He first told me my shift cable was fine when I told him what I needed to be done. As he repaired the bellow he called me the next day and said that the shift cable need to be replaced because it broke and he is having trouble getting it out, that a part broke off and was stuck. He charged me for this and said it wasn’t his fault because it was installed improperly. After I got my boat back I took it home and then the upcoming weekend I took the boat out and placed it in the water and now the tilt will not go down on the stern drive. I had a local marine mechanic look at it and try to put his charger to the motor and said he didn’t get any power. My question is, is it possible that this mechanic left something unplugged or did anything to make the motor not work? I definitely do not want to take it back to him since I feel he ripped me off with the whole cable breaking and charging me the extra hours for him getting the piece that was stuck out.
