Trim/Tilt electrical problem

My OMC Cobra 1992 trim tilt switch is not raising/lowering my lower unit. However, if I run a wire from the front of my dash switch leads to the battery, I can raise and lower my prop.
Things I have tried:
1 Replaced the toggle switch. (on my boat, the trim switch is on my dash. Previous owner.)
2 Like I mentioned above......when I connect a lead to my battery and touch the raise or lower terminal on my switch, it works fine.

Thank you for any help

Then the red wire on your switch is not carrying current from it's source. I assume direct from battery or starter terminal.
Maybe fused or broken. I can't see its routing from here.

Thank you. There are 5 total wires connected to my dash toggle switch. I’m assuming 2 for up, 2 for down and 1 ground. This is leading me to believe the two leads that are connected to the battery is where the problem lies, since when I bypass them and connect directly to the battery, the trim tilt motor operates correctly.
