trim tilt and sarter motor 200hp

Hi has anyone had this problem?I have had the block at mechanics with a lot of experience.I got him to put electrics on.
All i had to do was put it on the mid section and hook up a few wires and put starter motor on.
So i have it all done and when i use the up/down trim on the control.The starter motor spins.And the trim motor makes a noise aswel but doesn't go up and down i think it cant cope with the starter motor aswel.
What have i done?i have a book and i cant work out whats wrong everything looks okay.But it must not be.
 
Without seeing it,I think you have linked the starter solenoid to the trim solenoid,or the starter to the trim solenoid,instead of the starter solenoid.When you try to start the engine,does the pump work as well?
As for it not trimming,check fluid level,you may need to bleed the system
