Can someone tell what the purpose of the trim tab is for? Mine is broke. I am wondering if it assists the boat on start up to "get up" and plane better. Thanks
 
In some cases, prop torque will 'pull' at the wheel at speed. Adjusting the trim tab to shift the LU the opposite direction neutralizes this force. (It does nothing for planing off.) The other purpose of that trim tab is to act as an anode.

In V-8 powered boats with outdrives that force is considerable, and can yank the wheel right out of your hands! Not so with smaller outboards.
