"Hello all, I noticed some red (transmission) oil in the aft bilge. I then recalled a problem with my starboard trim tab (bennett), on my last trip last season. Kinda forgot about it! Anyway, the oil is coming from the hole that the nipple (through transom), goes into. I pulled the hose and removd the nipple. It all looks good. I'm thinking, either the threaded joint in the top of the piston was leaking.....(doubt, as the nipple seemed tight, and had teflon tape on it. Or the piston itself is leaking and backing up the hole. The is no oil outside the transom or tab. Anybody have any thoughts? Thanks"

"Use PST (pipe sealnt with teflon; a white paste), not teflon tape...The hydraulic pump and the rams will thank you for spending the extra money.

You never ellaborated on the issue with the tabs from last season. If the threaded joint was leaking, you'd have oil outside, where the cylinder is. Best to pull the cap free from the transom and rethread the nipple in keeping the threads clean. If it still leaks, get another cap and a new nipple and be done with the leak. Bennett used to sell service parts direct; call them if necessary."
