Hello I was wondering if their is any adjustments that can be made to the trim indicator. I have to trim my boat out to 11-15 on the indicator for it to ride nice and not pull to one side or the other. but the red light is ON in that range of trim. If i bring it down to say 7-9 it pulls reall hard one way but the Red light goes out and the green light comes on. is this normall? what ranges of trim is safe. thanks again TJ

Those trim things are scary. Although the U joints are designed to work with a angle of about 45-60 degrees they don't like it very much and need plenty of grease. But forget that. If the drive is trimmed into the tilt range (red light) there is danger of the rotating U joint rubbing against the rubber bellows. The primary shaft bearing will feel some strain also. Fix the underlying problem with the steering.

"Which trim indicator do you have? On my DP-A drive and trim system, the initial alignment is to trim the drive all the way down, push the drive down by hand into the stops (35lbs pressure only) and set the trim indicator to -4. What I have done is lowered the drive all the way down, pushed it into the stops, loosened the plastic sprocket atop the steering helmet, moved it out of the way and then turn the trim wheel on the steering yoke to achieve the -4, then move the sprocket back into position and tighten it down. Very easy operation.
Good luck.

Hello Bob I have a digital gau

Hello Bob I have a digital gauge. I dont know the exact model as the boat is on the Island and I am not I will find out this weekend. I bought the boat from a freind who say it has always had to be trimmed like that 11-15 for it to drive straight. I am just worried that it has the RED light on in that range. But he ran it that way for 10 years so. I guess it would have had problems by now if it was at a dangerous tilt angle. So Iam guessing it is out of adjustment on the gauge/sending unit. Another Question is I have a manual on CD that covers the 1968-1991 VP but it only talks about a Analog gauge. does anyone know where i might find info in the didgital gauge. THanks TJ
