"I have a 1996 Alpha 1 Gen 2 outdrive, with the Oildyne Power Trim Pump.
My trim motor seems to not have much pressure in the up motion, I believe from the manuel it could be the Up Pressure release valve, or even the filters, but not sure. The trim goes down OK, but moves up very slow, and makes a sound like it is low on fluid.
I reversed the lines and it seems to work OK, but under load it struggles to trim up, I think this is due to the down pressure is less than the up pressure.

So my question is, if it is the Pressure release Valve or filters, where can I get a rebuid kit online, or would it be best to contact a local Mercruiser dealer, who will no doubt be expensive. And how much do the valves cost."

"Have you needed to add fluid? Top off the fluid. When was the last time you lubed the zerk fitting on the OD? Disconnect the cylinder rods from the OD above the prop and run the trim to see if they both move at the same pace. A worn motor will struggle to drive the pump/valve body assy. If they check OK and the motor is not struggling, your drive motor may be in need of brushes, etc. Just buy a new motor due to its age. Kits are available but unless you are an experienced with elec. motor repair, forget it."

I have been reading your advice on the Marine Engine web site and appreciate your knowledge. I was hoping you may be able to shed some light on a problem I have encountered.

I have a Mercruser Bravo Three Sterndrive and the stern drive won’t go up. The unit goes down but not up.

I have checked the oil level looked at possible leaks and found none. The pump motor runs in both directions

But the drive unit won’t come up.



Any suggestions?"
