I am having trouble lining up the two arms so that the motor will advance.
The arms are plastic, one with the two cables from the throttle and the other pulls on the rod for the trigger.
The configuration of the two springs between the arms has got me beat.
I have a print out of the positions but no matter how i put them together it don't work properly.
The arm for the throttle cables travels to about half full before the other arm begins to pull on the rod for the trigger. it does eventually pull the rod to full advance but there is no tension on it and it can be easily moved back by pushing with finger and that's where it stays.
Also the trigger rod has slight tension on it pulling it back to idle position.
The larger of the two springs also want's to pull it back as well.
Please Help. Rob"

"Still haven't sorted this out.
What is happening, is that the rod that pulls the trigger advance around does not operate until half twist of the handle. Doesn't the trigger supposed to move as soon as the throttle is twisted?
Anyone got a motor in this era? and can check how theirs works.
Thanks."

"Rob, I own three motors from this family and work on numerous others, but you have me a little lost here.

I have posted a diagram below, but can't quite figure from your explanation what is giving you a hard time.

The tiller handle (throttle and shift) operates the two cables that come to the lower (wheel, cam, whatever you want to call it).

The linkage on the bottom (the adjustable one) controls the opening/closing of the carb butterfly and the upper linkage, part way through the travel begins to advance the trigger until about 3/4 throttle (or there abouts) and stops moving at that point (max timing is achieved while you still have throttle left).

The shift linkage rod is absent from this diagram, but would be located below and slightly behind the throttle linkage.

Did you totally disassemble everything? and the springs you mention, are you talking about that pair or circular springs that operate the main cam?
