Transom Shield Removal

I'm going to be lifting my D/P 290 eng soon with a borrowed hoist to repl my oil pan. My transom shield is badly corroded and needs refinishing. My question is can I set the motor back into position and reinstall the transom shield at a later time without the use of the hoist.?

"Theoretically, it can be done

"Theoretically, it can be done, but I think you won't have much space to reinstall the transom shield bolts & nuts and to bolt-up the exhaust pipe."

Bolting on the exhaust y-pipe

Bolting on the exhaust y-pipe will be a nightmare!! Hang onto the hoist.
