Transom sheild O-rings chamfered hole bit.

Is there a bit, tool or tools of choice for chamfering these holes.

Im stuck at Drill 3/16'' pilot hole,, enlarge to 1/2'' hole for the carriage bolt then use a 3/4'' bit to chamfer hole for the O-ring.

Please correct my bad idea.


BTW this is a new transom, 77 24 beachcraft was a omc stringer soon to be a VP 280 that I removed off a bayliner that had flat hole no taper for the o-rings.

In other words you could put a flat washer in the hole so i cant find a proper weapon to mimic what should be there.

Yes, a large 60* counter-sink bit.
Start the process with the bit perpandicular to the transom surface!!!!!!
Go slow as to NOT remove too much material!!!!!

The counter-sunk area must be adequate to compress the OEM Fat-O-Ring enough as to seal it against the carriage bolt "shank".
A 3/4" drill bit will cut too agressively....... so be very careful if you attempt this.

Using a correct counter-sink bit, and with the OEM Fat-O-ring in hand, carefully carve out the correct chamfer so that the O-ring becomes compressed properly.

I read somewhere on this site or BOC the looks to be 1'' round X 1/8'' deep would what this chart calls 120 look about right?
After all 60+60= 120. Its all how we look at the angle of the dangle.
