Got 91 OMC 574APERGD. Noticed water building bilge. With light and mirror I think I see water dripping in when I lower it in water. Very hard to see but with mirror I think its coming from the bolt mounted slightly inside the bearing plate picutred below #23. I was able to get a socket and tighted both bolts (not nuts) but that did not resolve. Is it the seal? Why would seal fail, transom rot? I can check for softness but when I tightened the bolts they were very tight so does not seam like the transom has rot. Other sources?
Second question. I've replaced a a couple of these plastic bilge pumps as they keep getting deformed with the heat. The bildge directly below oil pan so massive heat I suppose. Should I expect poastic deformation like that from enhine heat? Should these be consumable?
Until I can positively identify leak and decide if I can repiar, I'd like to use the boat.
Third question: When I checked oil, I noticed little bit of water emulsion on tip of stick. Immeadiately thought head gasket. is there any chance that due to water builidng in bilge up to the bottom oil pan and seeping into the oil pan drain fitting? Water is getting higher enought to cover the drain fitting, and I letf it "unknowingly coverede with water. I hope so that the case !!
