Transom boot installation

I am ready to install a transom boot on my 1972 Skipjack. It has a metal ring that fits over the edge of the transom boot. A large adjustable band fits it to the intermediate housing, the metal ring or trim fits over the boot edge which is then screwed to the transom with stainless steel screws. What would be the best type of sealant for marine use for the boot to transom surface? Any brand names or distrbuters would be appreciated. I have heard of a product called sicoflex? Ever heard of it? is it used for this type of application?
Thanks......Island Boy:cool:

I used Permatex Copper RTV against the transom. Been water tight for about 8 years.

OMC actually recommends no sealant.

5200 is the chit to use. Don't forget the screw heads. Now understand this you may have 16 holes, you can add more, straight thru the rubber and then seal the heads.

I use the same Silicone Sealant that I use when assembling the engine components.

Use Sikaflex, and you will get a watertight seal, but when the time comes to do any maintenance, or removal of the seal, then it is going to be one really tough job as that Sikaflex is not designed to be removed.

Once it is set, there would be no need for the screws.

Bruce.
