"I have two 8.1MPI, and starboard engine sits tight between stringers, so oil/trans cooler is mounted on right side of engine just above oil pan and very hard to if impossible to get at. My thought was to relocate it off of engine but very close on top side of stringer. I would have to extend raw water cooling hose and trans/oil hoses by only a few inches, but was wondering if mounting off the engine is ok? This way it woud be much easier to get at. And actually, I might not even be able to gt the old one off, so may just leave it be and mount new one to top of stringer and run new cooling lines to it."

"You can certainly relocate it, but it's not really something you have to get to on a regular basis. It's only held on by two oil pan bolts. Remove them and it will drop right down."

"I had the EXACT same set-up on my 454. Just pulled the engine to replace manifolds and risers. While I was at it, I relocated (and replaced) my trans oil cooler. It's now mounted just under my heat exchanger above the bell housing. I couldn't get to my pencil zinc before - electrolysis just about ate through my old cooler. I like having it up where I can see and service it..."
