Previous to getting my new to me '66 9.5 Evinrude running I had dropped the lower u it to check the water pump. It looked fine so I decided to focus on getting it running and I'd worry about the water pump later.
So I got it running nicely and had F,N, and R. It ran a little warm though. I dropped the lower unit this morning to change the water pump and also changed the thermostat.
Upon reassembly I only had F. It ran cooler though!
I pulled it apart but and now only have R upon putting it back together.
Is there a trick to this that I got right by dumb luck before? It seems l oke such a simple operation there has to be something I'm missing. It's 2 notched shafts joined by a brass piece.
Thankya,
Matt
