Top speed?

mt boater

New member
I have a 84 bayliner capri cuddy. I just bought it over the winter and have had it out a couple of times already. I was wondering about the top speed.. I have GPS it at 31mph.Is this right? It runs real good, always fires up.No noises and seems to purr nicely.I checked compression before I bought it and all cylinders were 135.It just seems to me that the aq125 is a little small for that size of boat, but since this is my first boat im probably wrong. How can I get more speed? Any advice would help this first time owner a lot.Thank guys

The manual says that WOT is 4800 RPM for your engine. If you're reaching that, then you're at top speed for your weight. 31 mph is really not a bad top speed for a 4 cylinder in a boat with the added weight of a cuddy cabin. Other than making sure that your engine is in good tune and good shape, there's not much you can do. Just enjoy it and realize its not a speed demon!

You might want to check and make sure there is engine oil in the outdrive and not gear lube but not much else.
