Hello,

I am wanting to put together a small tool kit to keep on our boat for our 1988 90hp Merc.

Are there a few common socket sizes that I should get that fit the engine. I dont want to carry a full set, just the common ones that I need. Does Mercury have a few common sizes??

5/16, 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16/, 5/8, 11/16, phillips / flathead screwdriver pliers and a hammer for attitude adjustment lol. With that you just about take the whole motor apart.

You left out a bunch of things: tie wraps, electrician's tape (for chaffed wires), spare plugs, prop wrench, knuckle buster, etc.

You are right Jeff, the way things go with my boat (its like a floating Mechanic's shop) if its not in the boat I can bet bottom dollar its probably in my truck. Spare recitifier,switchbox,distributor,belt,etc.etc. and a stick of dynamite which I havent used yet (came close) but then I would have to clean up the mess and probably have to pay a fine for littering.LMAO

i would also add a knife, duct tape, and plumbers putty(the two part clay you mix), doesnt matter what you have when you dont have what you need. Hard to keep a good tool kit small.
